Can durations fill in automatically?
Yes, in Pro. When you add a track to a playlist, its Duration box fills itself for Media Library uploads, Vimeo and YouTube videos, and direct file links (mp3, mp4 and so on). The “Fill missing durations” button on Playlist Items fills every empty one at once, and Bulk Add fills its new tracks right after adding them. You can always change the value, and a length you typed is never replaced. YouTube lengths are read in your browser by YouTube’s own player, shown small for a moment while it reads. Live streams have no length, and live or upcoming YouTube videos, private or deleted videos, videos whose owner blocked embedding, password-protected Vimeo videos and links whose host blocks the request stay empty.
Does Lean Player work with Bunny.net?
Yes. In Pro, connect Bunny Stream with your account API key, or a Bunny Storage zone with its password, under Settings > Integrations. Then browse your library or folders from Edit Player, or paste a link. Stream videos play in Lean Player with a quality menu, and protected libraries and zones get signed links that renew themselves on cached pages. Your keys stay on your server. In the free version, plain file links from Bunny Storage (for example https://mysite.b-cdn.net/video.mp4) play like any other video or audio link, as long as the zone does not have token authentication switched on. Protected zones need Pro, which signs the links.
Can I make a video or podcast episode members-only?
Yes, in Pro. Every saved player and playlist has an Access setting: Everyone, Logged-in users (optionally limited to certain roles), Logged-out users, Members of a level (Paid Memberships Pro or MemberPress), or Anyone with the password. Inside a playlist, each episode follows its own setting, so you can keep the intro free and show a padlock on the rest.
Which membership plugins work with Lean Player?
Any membership plugin that gives members a WordPress role: in the Access setting, choose “Logged-in users” and tick that role. Paid Memberships Pro and MemberPress also have built-in level support: when either is active, its levels show up under “Members of a level” with no setup.
Does locking a player protect the media file itself?
No. Lean Player keeps the media link out of the page for visitors without access, but it can’t protect the file. Anyone who already has the direct file address can still open it. YouTube and Vimeo videos are only as private as their settings on those sites (for example “Unlisted”, or Vimeo’s domain restriction).
Which embeds can be locked?
Saved players and playlists: the [lean_player] and [lean_playlist] shortcodes, the Elementor playlist widget, Button Links and the [lean_popup] shortcode. The Elementor video and audio widgets and the [lean_video] / [lean_audio] shortcodes are set up by hand on each page, so they have no saved Access setting.
Can one Elementor template play a different video on each post?
Yes. Store each post’s YouTube or Vimeo link in a custom field (for example an ACF URL or Text field). In the Video Player widget, set Player Source to Manual, choose YouTube or Vimeo, and pick that field from the dynamic tags on the link box. The field can hold a full link or just the video ID.
To keep one saved player’s look and settings instead, set Player Source to Saved Player, pick the player, open the Source Override section, and choose the field from the dynamic tags on the “Video Source Override” box. That box takes YouTube, Vimeo, Bunny Stream (Pro) and video file links, or an ID for the saved player’s own service. Posts with an empty field play the saved player’s own video. Members-only saved players always play their own video.= How do I use the shortcode? =
You can use the simple shortcode format: [lean_player id=”123″]
Replace “123” with your player’s ID. You can find the shortcode for each player in the Players list in your WordPress admin. The shortcode works in:
- Posts and pages
- Widgets
- Classic Editor
- Block Editor (Gutenberg)
- Anywhere shortcodes are supported
What video and audio formats are supported?
Video Sources: * YouTube videos (via URL) * Vimeo videos (via URL) * HTML5 video files (MP4, WebM, OGG)
Audio Sources: * Supported formats: MP3, OGG, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC * OPUS is supported via a direct URL/CDN link. WordPress does not allow .opus files in the media library, so it cannot be uploaded. * Live radio stream support (MP3, AAC), works with Icecast, Shoutcast and any other server that serves a direct stream URL
You can upload files through the WordPress media library, use direct URLs/CDN links, or stream live audio from streaming URLs. Any server works, Icecast, Shoutcast or anything else, as long as it gives you a direct stream URL. Note that on an HTTPS site the stream URL must be HTTPS too, since browsers block plain HTTP audio on a secure page. Older stations that only offer HTTP cannot play there, which is a limit of the station rather than the plugin.
Does this work with Elementor?
Yes! The plugin provides two Elementor widgets:
- Video Player – Add YouTube, Vimeo, or HTML5 videos
- Audio Player – Add audio files (MP3, OGG, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC)
Both widgets appear in the “General” category in the Elementor editor. You can customize all player settings directly from the Elementor widget panel.
Is the player compatible with all devices and browsers?
Yes, the player is designed to work across:
- All modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
- Mobile devices (iOS and Android)
- Tablets and desktops
- All WordPress themes
The player is lightweight and won’t significantly impact your website’s loading speed.
Can I create multiple players with different settings?
Yes! You can create unlimited players through the Player Manager in your WordPress admin. Each player can have its own:
- Source (video URL or audio file)
- Autoplay settings
- Volume settings
- Control options
- Styling options
You can also set Global Player Settings to define default behavior for all players, then override those defaults for individual players as needed.
How do I preview a player before publishing?
You can preview your player in two ways:
- From the Players List : Click “Preview Player” in the row actions next to any player in the All Players list
- From the Edit Screen : Use the “Preview Player” button in the publish box when editing a player
The preview opens in a new tab, showing only the player without your site’s header, footer, or sidebar for a clean preview experience.
Can I open a player from a button?
Yes (Pro). Each player and playlist has a Button Link like #lpl-open-player-123 on its Edit screen. Paste it into any button’s link field: click it and, if the player is on the page, it scrolls to it and plays; otherwise it opens in a popup and plays. You can also share the full link – visitors land right on that player or playlist, ready to press play.
Does this plugin use any third-party services?
Yes. This plugin uses the Freemius SDK for licensing, seamless upgrades, and optional insights that help us improve the plugin.
Freemius does not collect any data by default. On activation you will see an opt-in screen where you can choose to share non-sensitive diagnostic data. Opting in helps us understand the environments the plugin runs in, catch compatibility issues early, and prioritize the features that matter most. If you opt in, Freemius collects basic site and environment details, your plugin activation events, and your admin name and email address.
Skipping the opt-in is completely fine, the plugin works fully either way and no data is sent during normal usage. Purchasing or activating a Pro license connects to Freemius to validate the license and deliver automatic updates.
On opt-in, a copy of that same non-sensitive diagnostic data is also sent to our own database hosted on Supabase. Having it on hand helps us spot compatibility issues sooner, see which setups need attention, and keep making the plugin better for everyone.
Separately, when you deactivate the plugin you are asked why. This is optional: you can skip it and deactivate right away. If you do choose a reason and submit it, that reason, any comment you add, and basic version details about your plugin, WordPress and PHP install are sent to the same Supabase database. No user name or email is ever included.
