Setting up takes about ten minutes. Start in test mode (Sandbox): no real money moves until you switch to Production.
Before you start
- 01WooCommerce is installed and active.
- 02Your store currency ( WooCommerce → Settings → General → Currency ) is NOK, SEK, DKK or EUR.
- 03Your site is reachable from the internet over HTTPS. A site on your own computer needs a public HTTPS tunnel to receive payment confirmations.
Step 1. Install and activate
From your WordPress admin:
- 04Open Plugins → Add New Plugin and search for Nello Pay .
- 05Click Install Now next to Buckmerce – Bank Payments via Nello Pay for WooCommerce , then Activate .
Or upload the ZIP file:
- 06Download the plugin ZIP from WordPress.org.
- 07Open Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin , choose the file, click Install Now and then Activate Plugin .
After activation open WooCommerce → Settings → Payments and click Nello Pay . At the top of the settings you see a status checklist that tells you what is still missing.
Step 2. Get your Nello Pay API key
- 08Sign up or sign in at the Nello Pay Merchant Portal .
- 09Stay in the Sandbox view of the portal while you test.
- 10Make sure a receiving account exists for the country you sell in. This is the bank account your payments are sent to.
- 11Open Company settings → Integration and copy the API key .
Sandbox and Production have separate API keys. You get Production access after you complete the onboarding with Neonomics (see “Step 7. Go live”).
Step 3. Connect your store
In WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Nello Pay :
- 12Environment — leave it on Sandbox (test, no real money) .
- 13API key — paste the key from Step 2. The key is stored on your server and is never displayed again.
- 14Market — choose Norway (NOK), Sweden (SEK), Denmark (DKK) or Finland (EUR). It must match your store currency.
- 15Click Save changes .
Step 4. Set up the webhook
Nello Pay confirms every payment by calling a webhook on your site. Without it no order can be marked paid, so Pay by Bank is not offered at checkout until a webhook key is set.
- 16In the Nello Pay settings, next to Webhook key , click Generate a key . Click Copy to copy the new key, then Save changes .
- 17Copy the Webhook URL shown on the same screen.
- 18In the Merchant Portal open Company settings → Webhook .
- 19Paste the webhook URL. Enter it without https:// , exactly as it is shown in the Nello Pay settings.
- 20Paste the same webhook key into the key field of the portal and save.
The key in the portal and the key in your store must be identical. You can also choose your own key: 16 to 128 characters without spaces.
Step 5. Test the connection
- 21Back in the Nello Pay settings click Test connection . You should see Connected to Nello Pay .
- 22Read the status checklist at the top of the page. No row should say FAIL ; a row that does explains what to change.
Step 6. Turn Pay by Bank on and place a test order
- 23Tick Offer Pay by Bank at checkout and click Save changes . The status at the top changes to Ready .
- 24Open your shop, add a product to the cart and choose Pay by Bank at checkout.
- 25On the Nello Pay checkout choose a test bank and sign in with the Sandbox test credentials published by Neonomics .
- 26Approve the payment. You return to the order confirmation page, and the order becomes Processing (or Completed ) as soon as Nello Pay confirms the payment.
In Sandbox the order total decides how a test payment ends:
- 2720 — the payment fails.
- 2830 — the payment is cancelled.
- 2940 — the bank stops reporting on the payment, and you confirm or reject it on the order.
- 30Any other amount — the payment completes.
After your first test payment the checklist row Webhook updates received from Nello Pay turns to PASS . This is the proof that your webhook works.
Step 7. Go live
- 31Complete the onboarding with Neonomics (customer due diligence and contract) to get Production access to the Merchant Portal.
- 32In the Production view of the portal check your receiving account, copy the Production API key and register the webhook again with a new webhook key.
- 33In the Nello Pay settings set Environment to Production (real money) , enter the Production API key and the new webhook key, and click Save changes .
- 34Click Test connection and make sure the status says Ready .
- 35Make one real payment of a small amount and follow it until the order is paid.
Production requires HTTPS. For dependable payment updates on a store with few visitors, ask your host to run WP-Cron from a server cron job.
Optional settings
- 36Title and Description — the name and text of the payment method at checkout. The default title is “Pay by Bank”.
- 37Store name in Nello Pay — the name your customers see while they pay. Leave it empty to use your site title.
- 38Payment message — the message attached to the bank payment. {order_number} is replaced by the order number.
- 39Debug logging — writes detailed logs to WooCommerce → Status → Logs . Keys and other sensitive values are removed from the logs.
- 40Uninstall cleanup — also removes the Nello Pay settings and history when you delete the plugin. Payment records on your orders are always kept.
If something does not work
- 41Pay by Bank is not shown at checkout — open the Nello Pay settings and read the status checklist. The usual reasons are a missing API key or webhook key, no market selected, or a store currency that differs from the currency of the market.
- 42Orders are not marked paid — the webhook is not reaching your site. Compare the webhook URL and key in the Merchant Portal with the values in your store, and make sure you are in the right portal view (Sandbox or Production).
- 43Need more detail? — open WooCommerce → Nello Pay Health for a full report that is safe to share with support.
