Editorial guide based on official documentation; not a hands-on product test.
Find Shopify’s automatic sitemap, submit it to Google Search Console, and understand what submission can and cannot do.
Find the sitemap Shopify creates
Visit your store domain followed by /sitemap.xml. Shopify generates a sitemap that points to products, collections, pages, and blog posts, along with primary product images. A sitemap is a discovery aid, not a replacement for clear menus and internal links. If you use a custom domain, check the public version of the store rather than an old preview or password-protected URL.
Verify your site in Search Console
Before submitting the file, add and verify the domain or URL property in Google Search Console. Choose the property that matches the store visitors actually use. If you recently changed domains, inspect both old and new properties and confirm redirects. Do not share verification credentials with an untrusted contractor.
