Click Action Sounds adds a little personality to your website: when a visitor clicks a link, presses a button, or submits a form, a sound plays. Use it for fun, or use it thoughtfully — a soft chime on a “Book now” button, a gentle beep on “Add to cart” — to make key actions feel tactile and memorable.
Every click, tap and hover can have its own sound effect, so the audio feedback matches what the visitor just did rather than firing the same noise at everything.
Features:
84 built-in sounds in nine packs: UI & Interface, Retro Game, Cartoon, Jingles, Animals, Business & Trades, Body, Nature, and Spooky
Choose a default sound, then give internal links, external links, buttons, and form submissions their own sound — or silence any of them
Optional hover sounds for buttons and links (off by default, and never on touch screens)
Add your own sounds from the Media Library (MP3, M4A, WAV, or OGG) and give them names
Volume control — slide it to zero to mute everything without changing your sound choices
Optional “no sounds on touch devices” setting
Optional “let the sound finish before navigating” setting for longer sounds
Lightweight: one small script on the frontend, no external requests, no tracking
Sounds only ever play in response to a visitor’s action, so they work in every modern browser without autoplay problems.
What you can use it for
Shops — a click sound on Add to cart, a chime on checkout, so buyers get confirmation that the button did something.
Booking and enquiry sites — a discreet sound effect on “Book now” or a form submission, so visitors know the click registered.
Quizzes and courses — a quiz feels far better when each answer clicked makes a sound. Popular on kids’ sites and education sites, where clicking should feel like something happened.
Games and gamification — the Retro Game pack gives buttons an arcade feel; the Cartoon pack suits playful brands.
Interactive demos and portfolios — UI sounds make a prototype or showcase feel finished.
Novelty and seasonal — the Spooky pack for October, Animals for a pet site, Jingles for a launch.
How it decides what is a button
Themes and page builders disagree about what a button is, so the plugin looks at the markup rather than trusting the theme. It listens for clicks on links, button elements, and submit inputs, and treats anything carrying a btn or button CSS class or role="button" as a button. That covers the block editor’s Button block, block themes, and buttons built by the common page builders, plus the submit button on most contact and enquiry forms — no per-theme configuration and no shortcodes to place.
Sounds included: clicks, taps, pops, blips, beeps, boops, dings, chimes, bells and tings in the UI pack, plus retro arcade blips, cartoon boings, jingles, animal noises, workshop and business sounds, nature, and a handful of spooky ones. All are short, so they finish before they get annoying.

A note on taste: with great sound comes great responsibility. A subtle click delights; a foghorn on every link does not. We trust you.

Frequently asked questions.
I activated the plugin but nothing makes a sound
That is expected — the plugin starts silent so it never surprises your visitors. Go to Settings → Click Action Sounds and choose a Default sound (or set a sound for a specific action). Sounds begin once you pick one.
How do I add a click sound to a button in WordPress?
Install the plugin, open Settings → Click Action Sounds, and pick a sound for Buttons. That is the whole setup — you do not need to edit the button, add a CSS class, or use a shortcode. The plugin finds buttons on the page itself. If you want one sound on buttons and a different one on ordinary links, set them separately on the same screen.
Can I play a different sound for clicking and for hovering?
Yes. Clicking and hovering are configured separately, and hover sounds are split into button hover and link hover. Hover sounds are off by default and never play on touch devices, since there is no hovering on a phone.
Can I use my own sounds?
Yes. Upload an audio file (MP3, M4A, WAV, or OGG) to your Media Library, then add it under Settings → Click Action Sounds → My sounds . It will appear in every sound menu. Useful if you have brand audio, a recorded voice clip, or a sound effect you already own.
Can I play a sound when the mouse hovers over a button?
Yes. Under Settings → Click Action Sounds → Hover sounds , choose a sound for button hover and/or link hover. Hover sounds are off by default and never play on touch devices.
Does it work on mobile and touch devices?
Yes. Click sounds play on tap. Hover sounds are skipped on touch screens because hovering does not exist there, and there is a setting to turn all sounds off on touch devices if you would rather phones stayed quiet.
One of my buttons does not make the button sound
Many themes and page builders create “buttons” that are really links styled to look like buttons. The plugin treats anything that looks like a button (a btn or button CSS class, or role="button" ) as a button. If a button still behaves like a link, set the Internal or External link sound to match.
Will this slow down my site?
No. The plugin adds one small JavaScript file and only preloads the sounds you actually use.
Does it play sounds in the admin area?
No, sounds only play on the public site.
Longer sounds get cut off when clicking a link
When a visitor navigates to a new page, the browser stops all audio. Enable “Let sounds finish” in the settings to briefly delay navigation (up to one second) so the sound can play out.
