A short history of Nepal cricket: ICC membership, ODI status, T20 World Cup appearances and the rise of a home league.
Read the storyMost leagues use a draft or an auction, sometimes combined with retained players, so that talent is spread across teams and no side can simply buy every star. Squads normally include a mix of national-team players, domestic cricketers and a limited number of overseas professionals. Exact player-signing rules vary by league and season, so check the official NPL announcements for details.
Overseas professionals raise the standard of competition and attract new viewers. For local players, sharing a team with experienced international cricketers is a valuable learning opportunity, because they see at close range how others prepare, train and handle pressure.
Players are signed on contracts that set out their fees, obligations and conduct. Leagues also adopt rules on anti-corruption and integrity, because fans must be able to trust that matches are played honestly. Reporting suspicious approaches to the authorities is part of every professional cricketer's responsibility.
Who owns the NPL teams? Franchise operators under arrangements set by the Cricket Association of Nepal. Are overseas players allowed? Yes, within the limits in the tournament rules. How are players selected? Methods such as drafts or auctions are used in many leagues, so check the official NPL announcements for the specific process.
