Editorial guide based on official documentation; not a hands-on product test.
A focused security checklist for WordPress updates, accounts, plugins, backups, and recovery without pretending one plugin can solve everything.
Start with updates and a fallback
Keep WordPress core, themes, and plugins supported and current. Before a major change, make a restorable backup and test the update in staging if the site has important transactions or custom code. Check release notes for compatibility concerns. An update plan is stronger than postponing every patch, but blindly applying changes without a recovery path can also create downtime.
Reduce who can make high-impact changes
Give each editor only the role needed for their work. Remove former staff accounts and avoid sharing one administrator login. Use long unique passwords and enable two-step authentication where available. Review which accounts can install plugins, edit code, or change payment settings. Protect the email account used for password resets as carefully as the WordPress login.
